with a Food Ordering App
By Caeley Elcock
Real-life oracle and all-round awesome lady actor, Julia Roberts has been quoted as saying:
“My life at home gives me absolute joy [but] there are some days when, as soon as you’ve finished cooking breakfast and cleaning up the kitchen, it’s time to start lunch, and by the time you’ve done that, you’re doing dinner and thinking, ‘there has to be a menu we can order from.’”
Imagine if Ms. Roberts had access to an app for food ordering. She wouldn’t be looking around for paper menus and home life would be that little bit easier. We imagine she’s got a whole host of cooks and nannies helping out too but hey, life can still be tough even with an army of staff.
The truth is that nowadays, everyone is mega busy with jobs, childcare, hobbies and scrolling through Instagram (it’s a very real commitment) so very few people have the time to cook every day. At the same time, the idea of getting changed out of sweatpants into something more acceptable to the public eye to head to a restaurant seems far too energetic after a workday. Give them an app and ordering in food from your restaurant to be delivered direct to their door seems like the perfect solution – then everyone can make time to Eat, Pray, Love, not just Julia Roberts!
We could talk about the topic all day – we do love a natter! – but for now, here’s a breakdown of some of the top reasons customers will love having an app for your restaurant.
Paper menus get lost in the telephone table drawer, torn in the process of finding scrap paper to make a quick note, or greasy with “take-out finger” touching – it’s a thing. Remember the days of saving up those Domino’s coupons that came on the side of the box? We’d keep them no matter how many slices of month-old pepperoni they were adorned with. Those days are officially over and we’re successfully adulting now with apps on our home screens to do the same job, instead of Menu Mountain in our homes.
Get it when you want it. Picture this: you’re on the way home from work. Maybe you’re already on the train or you’re about to start the drive back. You don’t want to have to wait until you get to the paper-menu stack at home to be able to browse your favourite takeout offerings, place your order and then have another 30 minutes to endure before the good stuff arrives. If you’ve got an app at your disposal you can place an order on the ride home or as you leave the office and – hey presto! – it’s at your door 5 minutes after you are.
Third in Line
Inside info on new dishes straight to your home screen. If your favourite restaurant has got a hot new creation on the menu you’re going to be the first to know if you’ve downloaded the app. If you’re still on the old paper menu system, you’re going to have to wait until your order arrives and hope the delivery person has brought you a new version but honestly, who wants to wait to try new deliciousness? Getting an app means more regularly menu updates and even email alerts to tell you about them.
Last but Not Least
No misunderstandings. You know what’s really irritating? When you order one thing but get another because the person on the phone was distracted, couldn’t hear you well or was trying to scribble down orders in the midst of a restaurant kitchen during Saturday night service. Or maybe you were battling over your friends’ frolics when you called in and it’s not the restaurant’s fault. So, what do you do? Send the food back and wait another 45 minutes for your dish? Or eat something you don’t like? Neither option is ideal. Place your order via an app and you get exactly what you asked for – or at least the chances of anything going wrong are minimized and you can be pretty confident about being able to stuff your face with the right culinary delight!
If you’re a restaurant owner, put yourself in your customer’s shoes. You want your food fast, with a clear ordering system leaving little room for error and you want to keep up with deals and dishes at your favourite restaurants. An ordering app gives you all that, and more – simple.
